is Changing the Way Black Children Reclaim Their History

Author & Founder "My Roots Are Rich"
Milpitas, CA

The 19-year-old community activist and Spelman College sophomore is passionate about sharing the rich history of African-Americans and combating the erasure of that history in education. Nyla self-published her first children’s book, “My Roots Are Rich”, to encourage Black children to love their history. She also established the My Roots Are Rich social justice non-profit to fight systemic racism in education.

  • “Eventually, I want to see My Roots are Rich as a television show. Kids can turn it on and see history, positive history, being reinforced back to them.”
